Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as "food stamps") provides food assistance for low-income New Yorkers. It gives monthly benefits on an EBT card and can be used to shop online at participating online stores, NYC farmers markets, grocery stores, etc. Applicants that are approved for benefits will receive an EBT card in the mail.

Documentation:
Proof of Identity: Photo identification, driver’s license, passport, Social Security Card, naturalization certificate, hospital/doctor’s records, or adoption papers
Proof of where you live: Statement from landlord/primary tenant, current rent receipt or lease, or mortgage records
Proof of Income (if any): Current pay stubs, pay envelopes, business records, tax records, or current income tax return, etc.
Proof of Current Immigrant Status: USCIS documentation
Protect Your Benefits
Don’t trust calls or messages asking for your information — Official agencies don’t ask for PINs over the phone
Never share your EBT card number or PIN with anyone
Only use your card at authorized stores
Check your EBT balance regularly to spot unauthorized use
Report lost/stolen cards immediately
Use EBT Edge to freeze your funds when you’re not using them
